Woman Allegedly Threw Boyfriend's Dog Off Balcony: Indiana Police Arrest Sarah Rust

Domestic Dispute Leads Woman To Throw Dog Off Balcony

An Indiana woman is now facing animal cruelty charges stemming from an apology letter she wrote to the dog she allegedly threw to its death from a second floor balcony.

According to a press release from the Fishers Police Department, 28-year-old Sarah Rust tossed her boyfriend's dog, Raider, from the elevated porch during a heated argument on Jan. 24.

The boyfriend, Shawn Davidson, initially told veterinary clinic employees as well as his ex-girlfriend -- with whom he once shared the dog -- that Rust killed Raider during the altercation. Later, when police questioned Davidson, he said that he did not see Rust throw the dog and that he blamed the woman while he was angry about the dog's death.

Eventually, the ex-girlfriend reported Rust to the police, leading to the suspect's Feb. 17 arrest. Along with her account of the story, the ex-girlfriend offered police a copy of a letter to the deceased dog, allegedly written by Rust and left at Raider's grave, WSBT reported.

According to WTHR, the letter reads:

Dear Raider:
First and foremost forgive me, but also forgive me and your Daddy for fighting. We brought your life into our quarrel. You did not deserve to be any part of our combat. I ended your life, for which I am truly sorry my son. I feel as if a part of my soul has died with yours. Might you forgive me and let your Daddy at peace in your prayers. I will do my best to redeem myself but I know you can never be replaced. Once again baby Raider, I love you and I'm so sorry for ending your precious life. Just give me a signal from up above when I'm selecting Daddy's Next Best 2nd Friend. I love you Raider. I'm sorry and God bless you. You will always be his #1.

Rust has been released from jail on $5,000 bond. She is charged with animal cruelty, a class-D felony.
